India 56th National Award Winners

The 56th National Award winners have been announced and interestingly, this is for the year 2008 and not 2009. On the whole, it looks like Bollywood has dominated the scenario this time and here is a list of the winners in key categories:
Best Film: Antaheen (Bengali)
Best Hindi Film: Rock On
Best Actress: Priyanka Chopra (Fashion)
Best Actor: Upendra Limaye (Jogwa)
Best Supporting actress: Kangna Ranaut (Fashion)
Best Supporting actor: Arjun Rampal (Rock On)
Best Debut Film: A Wednesday
Best Special Effects: Mumbai Meri Jaan
Best Popular Film: Oye Lucky Lucky Oye

Eight Films were selected for the ‘Best Feature Film in each of the language specified in the Schedule VIII of the constitution’ category:
Best Assamese Film – Mon Jai
Best Bengali Film – Shob Charitro Kalponik
Best Hindi Film – Rock On
Best Kannada Film- Vimukthi
Best Malayalam Film- Thiraikkatha
Best Marathi Film- Harishchandrachi Factory
Best Tamil Film – Vaaranam Aayiram
Best Telugu Film – 1940 Lokagramam.
Best Male Singer: Hariharan
Best Female Singer: Shreya Ghoshal
Best Animation Film: Roadside Romeo
Best Editing: Firaaq
Best Director: Bala

‘Little Zizou’ (English, Gujarati) was adjudged the Best Film on Family values.
Master Shams Patel bagged the Best Child Artist for his role in Hindi film ‘Thanks Maa’.
The Special Jury Award goes to Malayalam film ‘Bioscope’ produced by National Film Development Corporation.
Neeta Lulla is selected for Best Costume Designer for Hindi film Jodha Akbar.
The film Jodha Akbar was also selected in the Best Choreography category.

Remember Ramya Nambeesan who played a role in Raman Thediya Seethai with Cheran in the Moser Baer production? Well the actor is back in a de glam role in Vetattam, directed by DS Kannan who is debuting with this film.The actor will shortly be seen in Aatanayagan opposite Shakthi, the son of director P Vasu. She has so far done six movies in Malyalam and is looking for a good break in Tamil. “I will do skin show only if needed,” she says, but saying an absolute No to bikinis.In Vetattam she plays a village girl in a role without make up. “I want to do a variety of films. Cinema is all about luck and timing,” she says about her fledgeling career in Tamil.Let’s wish the girl luck!
